Bio – Dr. Ken Kirsch graduated from Loyola School of Dentistry in 1990, and opened his first office in Homer Glen in December that same year.  Dr. Kirsch works with three hygienists with special interests.  They work with special needs children, diabetics, and preventative procedures, as well as treatment of oral health.

Helpful Dental Information:

Dental implants – They are tooth replacements that are typically better than original teeth.  Their 20 year success rate is 96%.  They look and function just like real teeth.

Mercury fillings – WIDELY used, and only cause adverse reactions in a very small percentage of users.  However, the invention of composite fillings, which are easier to use, and look more like real teeth, has diminished the use of mercury fillings.

Dentistry and pregnancy – X-Rays, though typically avoided during pregnancy, can sometimes prove necessary in a dental emergency.  Untreated dental infections can be more detrimental to the unborn baby than the low amount of radiation emitted from the procedure.  Every precaution is taken to minimize the radiation exposure, in such an instance.   Gingivitis is another problem that can show itself during pregnancy.  The higher amount of hormones in a pregnant woman’s body, increase the prevalence of gingivitis during the middle part of the nine months.  It is recommended that you get extra dental cleanings during your second and third trimesters of pregnancy, and take extra special care of your mouth during pregnancy.
